Newcastle RNLI looking for volunteer press officer

Newcastle RNLI looking for volunteer press officer

27 October 2021

NEWCASTLE RNLI is looking for a new volunteer lifeboat press officer to join its station team and help raise local awareness of the charity that saves lives at sea.

The press officer will promote the operational activity of the station and share information on newsworthy rescues to highlight the lifesaving work of the all-weather and inshore lifeboat crews, while also delivering important water safety and fundraising messages.

The rescue service is seeking someone who can write and distribute regular new releases, handle media requests, support media opportunities and facilitate press interviews.

The role is best suited to someone with good writing and communication skills, who lives within a good distance of the station and can be flexible with their time.

Newcastle RNLI’s Lifeboat operations manager Lisa Ramsden said volunteers are at the heart of the organisation and make up 95 per cent of its people.

“They are ordinary people who do extraordinary things and without them we couldn’t save lives at sea,” she said. “Volunteering with the RNLI gives people the opportunity to make a real difference in the local community, to save lives and become part of the larger RNLI family.”

Lisa explained that becoming a volunteer was a great chance for someone to play a crucial part in helping to save lives at sea.

“We are looking for an enthusiastic person with good writing and interpersonal skills and who enjoys working with people and at times under pressure to inform the media and update our community on the various lifesaving activities that are happening at the station from rescues to fundraising, community safety to events,” she added.

Anyone interested in the press officer role is asked to visit https://volunteering.rnli.org/vacancy/volunteer-lifeboat-press-officer-458838.html to find out more and apply.

The closing date for applications is October 31.
