SEAFORDE motocross rider Nathan Green has been selected to represent Ireland following a series of impressive performances on the track.
The 19 year-old is one of three Irish riders who will compete at this October’s Coupe de l’Avenir in Belgium, in what will be the iconic event’s 50th anniversary.
“It’s an honour to be selected,” said Nathan.
“It has been a personal goal of mine over the last few years but due to Covid and its general impacts I have had to wait a bit longer.
“I am buzzing, it’ll be tough no doubt with the quality of the field but I’ll give it a real good go.”
The teenager will be on board his 450 Yamaha in the MX Expert class and will be competing against Europe’s top riders.
At the event, Nathan will be rubbing shoulders with former Ulster and Irish Motocross champion Wayne Garrett, who is noted as an idol to the young rider.
Nathan is not short of experience himself as he already competes against vastly skilled opponents and currently sits fourth in the British Nationals.
Nathan’s most recent success came on Sunday when he took silver at the Irish Championships in Saul.
Due to these sorts of performances, selectors have kept a close eye on the rider and this is ultimately why he has been chosen to represent Ireland.
The exciting talent hails from a family steeped in motocross with dad William a former rider and great uncle Norman the owner of a motocross track in Seaforde.
“I have been racing since I was six, so 13 years now,” said Nathan.
“I practice all round the country, whenever and wherever I can.
“But all of this wouldn’t be possible without my mum and dad, their support means the world and they enable me to do this.”
Before travelling to Belgium, Nathan will make the trip to Oxford for the next round of the British Nationals next Saturday.
