IT was yet another busy week for Murlough AC, with the club’s recruitment drive marking its 5th week and members were running in Carlingford, the Mournes and Belfast.
Team Murlough headed to the Glenmore Challenge, a popular running festival that is organised by Glenmore AC and offers a range of distances.
All distances took scenic routes through the unspoiled valley of Glenmore, in the heart of the Cooley Peninsula, the land of the Táin Legend.
Competitors were bused out to the various start points and all finished at Mullaghbouy, outside Carlingford.
Weather was unpredictable, with a grey and wet start to the various races, but competitors soon warmed up after tackling a few of the hills.
Shauna Trainor, Noel McMullan, Marty Rawlinson and Ciaran Poland chose the 10-mile race.
Lynette Killen, Natalie McAuley, Brenda Doran, Laura O’Neill, Mary Flanagan,
Brigid O’Hare, Sinead Mulholland and Annie McCartan completed the 10K distance, while Michelle Hickland and John McVeigh opted for the 5K distance.
Glenmore AC are to be congratulated for hosting what was a well organised Running Fest, followed by wonderful hospitality and refreshments at Mullaghbuoy Community Centre.
The Mourne Way Marathon and Half Marathon, with its mixture of hills, trails, bog, sun and hail, featured four club members.
The marathon was conquered by John Nixon and Katrina Williams and Catherine Green and Caroline Burns tackled the half marathon.
There was fantastic running on show from everyone, especially John, who finished in 10th place in a marathon that involves running from Rostrevor to Bryansford and back.
Eleanor McCartney and Rose Mackin went for a trip to East Belfast for the CS Lewis Five Challenge, which Eleanor described as a ‘lovely wee run of trails, road and grass.’
