Mountain bike sessions are for the public to explore trails

FREE mountain bike taster sessions are being offered as part of a major outdoors event next month.

Outdoor Recreation NI is offering the taster sessions on the Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails as part of Get Outdoors Weekend on September 20-21.

These mountain bike taster sessions provided by Life Adventure have been made possible as a result of the legacy from the Single Speed European Championships held in Castlewellan in April.

Director of Outdoor Recreation NI, Dr Caro-Lynne Ferris, hopes that local businesses and residents make the most of this free opportunity.

“This is an opportunity for us to thank the people of Castlewellan for helping us to successfully deliver the Single Speed European Championships in the spring,” she said.

Over 260 mountain bikers from more than 19 different countries stayed in Castlewellan for the weekend of the Single Speed European Championships which helped to raise the profile of the Castlewellan Mountain Bike Trails which have now been visited over 35,000 times.

Two of these mountain bike taster sessions will take place on Saturday, September 20, with the morning session catering for adults and the afternoon session geared more towards young teenagers. There will be a further adult taster session on offer on the morning of Sunday, September 21.

These mountain bike taster sessions are being offered as part of Get Outdoors Weekend which sees over 50 free outdoor activity events taking place all across Northern Ireland including a whole host of wonderful nature events on offer in County Down.

More information on all these events can be found on www.getoutdoorsweekend.com. Pre-booking is required and places are limited and expected to book up fast.
