DOWNPATRICK Lions Club is looking for new volunteers as it prepares for its new session which begins next month.
As summer draws to a close, local Lions are roaring to go, but need people’s assistance to show that kindness matters.
With autumn on the horizon and local clubs, societies and organisations gearing up for their respective new programmes and just 18 Fridays until Christmas, a lot of events and activities will take place before Santa arrives
Downpatrick Lions have an array of events and activities lined up and is seeking willing volunteers to assist them.
Club president, Seamus McMullan, met recently with staff and residents of Cedar Court in Downpatrick to discuss a new monthly social event for residents which start in September.
And Lion Neil Hamilton will be recommencing the very popular Downsound Talking newspaper which is a podcast of local news and events for the blind and visually impaired.
In October, Lions Club members will be taking part in a street collection to raise funds for local charities and there will also be a quiz night at the Lakeside Inn, with all the activities requiring the support of a few more volunteers, offering a few hours of kindness.
“People can hold a tin on the street collection, help out or even sing a song at the social events for older citizens or be a news reader on Downsound,” said Seamus.
“Or, they could help with the technical aspects of producing a pod cast or take a table at the quiz night.”
Seamus is also encouraging those who have any old spectacles to them off for recycling in the Lions Club’s collection box at the Specsavers store in Market Street.
Downpatrick Lions club welcomes new volunteers and members and anyone interested in joining to help the club with its planned events is asked to contact downpatricklions@gmail.com or through www.facebook.com/Downpatricklions
