THE upgrading of Newcastle’s promenade lights is set to resume.
Work on the project was suspended for the summer season, but Newry, Mourne and Down Council have announced its resumption.
Having completed the promenade columns from the Glen River entrance up to the foot bridge, the remaining two phases of work will progress to the end of the promenade
To ensure the work can be carried out safely, the promenade pathway will be closed at various access points during the programme.
The contractor, White Mountain Quarries, will be on site over the next two months.
Council chairwoman Cathy Mason said: “The public’s patience on this project is gratefully appreciated as the project strives for completion
before the onset of the winter months.
“The planned works will ensure the lighting features will have been given a new protective surface finish and can continue to add to the attractiveness of the overall promenade walkway.”
