Killyleagh Regatta has all the right ingredients

30 July 2025

CONDITIONS were glorious for Killyleagh Yacht Club’s annual regatta on Saturday.

The excellent turnout of 85 boats enjoyed a warm, medium breeze with plenty of sunshine and no rain.

At the end of an afternoon of close racing there were some familiar faces picking up the prizes, including quite a few from the host club.

Mike Spence’s continued from where he left off at the Narrows Series by taking top spot in the big boat YTC 1 class in Le Basculer from Peter Holden’s Going to Red and the Dark and Stormy Syndicate’s Adelante.

Two more Killyleagh sailors, Kyle Bolton and Adam Morrison, took the honours in the restricted sail classes, David Hanna was the king of

the Squibs and the pairing of Andrew McCleery and Colin Dougan led from start to finish in the Flying Fifteens.

Nicholas Bloch won the highly competitive Glen class and Susan McKnight was the leading River sailor.

There was a good turnout in the dinghy classes ahead of the following day’s Youth Series event.
