Killinchy woman gets promotion to head audit office

21 February 2018

A KILLINCHY woman has been appointed Local Government Auditor at the Northern Ireland Audit Office.

Pamela McCreedy has the responsibility for leading all local government audits across Northern Ireland.

She will be responsible for auditing local councils, joint committees and other local government bodies and reporting on improvement audits and assessments.

“I will lead the NIAO’s team of skilled and experienced auditors, each of whom is passionate in what he or she does, both in the audits of financial statements and in the audited bodies’ arrangements for ensuring economy, efficiency and effectiveness in their use of resources,” she said.

“This role matters to everyone involved as collectively we strive to ensure the best possible use of ratepayers’ money.”

In April 2017 Mrs McCreedy was elected chairwoman of the Chartered Accountants’ Ulster Society.

“Throughout my career I have always remained passionate about accountancy and I have been involved with Chartered Accountants Ireland since 1998,” she said.

“As the current chair of the Ulster Society, which represents more than 4,500 chartered accountants, I remain very hands-on in driving the profession forward.

“Accountancy really is the first step to so many careers and I would encourage everyone to look at it as a viable option.”

Mrs McCreedy previously worked in senior roles in the Health and Social Care Board, the Northern HSC Trust and at KPMG where she trained as a chartered accountant and was director of Public Sector Advisory.

In her free time she enjoys keeping fit, visiting Donegal and spending time with her husband and two sons.

“My boys and my husband, Allan, are fantastic and all play their part at home, particularly when my working day is extended by meetings or functions,” she said.

“We enjoy getting away to Donegal where we can enjoy long walks and time together as a family.”
