KILLINCHY Young Farmers’ Club members are getting ready for Comber’s first TT Soapbox Race meeting on Saturday, August 17, starting at 5.30pm.
They have entered three teams and preparations are well under way to build three ‘crazy’ vehicles complete with braking and steering capability fit for the hill on High Street, Comber.
There will be three races down the hill for each team to the finish line in the Square.
The Ards TT race was a massive event in the sporting calendar of the late 1920s and 1930s attracting thousands of spectators.
The TT Soap Box Race is being organised by Comber Regeneration Community Partnership.
Its chairman, Philip Smith, said: ‘We want to rejuvenate this famous brand for the benefit of Comber, and we believe it’s a great way to involve the whole community in bringing it back to life.
“It’s a free, fun family event and we hope that it will attract lots of visitors to the town.”
The Killinchy YFC teams are being supported by Andrew Gilbert, of Springmount Eggs.
