Killinchy Primary School getting into gear with Battle of the Bikes event

16 March 2022

PARENTS and staff at Killinchy Primary School are going to head to head in a ‘Battle of the Bikes’.

The spin bike challenge to see which team can ride furthest in six hours will take place outside McCann General Stores in Killinchy on Saturday, April 2, starting at 10am.

What started out as a fun fundraiser has definitely stirred up some friendly rivalry — one team has even recruited a secret weapon in the form of an Olympic track cyclist.

The parents’ team is being led by the PTA chairperson Lorna Cooke and includes members of Killinchy Cycling Club.

The staff team, led by school principal Chris Currie, will also include members of the board of governors and possibly a professional cyclist to beef up their challenge.

Everyone is welcome to come along and cheer on the teams. There will be extra parking available and an Easter Hamper full of local produce which will go the person who can guess how many kilometres the teams will cycle.

All money raised from the event will go towards the purchase of equipment and supplies for the school.

The organises are grateful Core Fitness NI for lending two spin bikes, McCanns General Stores and Stormont Dental for their sponsorship.

Further information is available on the Killinchy PTA Facebook page.
