Kilcoo power to Bryansford win

Kilcoo power to Bryansford win

15 August 2018

AN electrifying start from Kilcoo saw them avenge an earlier league defeat to Bryansford at a foggy

Castlewellan on Saturday night and remain on target for seven-in-a-row.

The game was barely two minutes old when Johnston made no mistake with an unerring finish to leave Bryansford playing catch-up. A Davy McKibben point gave Bryansford a glimmer of hope, but the Kilcoo machine just kept rumbling on and two converted frees from Ryan McEvoy gave them a 1-2 to 0-1 lead after eight minutes.

Bryansford could and should have been much closer than this on the scoreboard, but they wasted several good chances that on another night would have been taken.

However, points from Timmy Hanna and Danny Savage left two points between the sides before Johnston and Daniel McDonald exchanges scores as Kilcoo took a 1-3 to 0-4 lead by the 17th minute.

Paul Devlin then swooped to net Kilcoo’s second goal and there was just no way back for Bryansford. Things just kept getting better for Kilcoo and they finished the first half in a hurry with further points from Johnston and McEvoy to go in at the break with a commanding 2-5 to 0-4 lead.

Kilcoo maintained their dominance at the start of the second half and two Marty Devlin points stretched their lead even further and even the dismissal of Darryl Branagan failed to disrupt the Magpies flow.

Points from Daniel McDonald, Savage and Ruairi Brannigan cut the deficit to six points with 47 minutes gone, but Niall Kane and Paul Devlin fired Kilcoo back into a 2-9 to 0-7 lead with time on the blow.

Bryansford kept plugging away and were rewarded with the last two scores from Savage and Conor Maginn.
