Kilclief mesmerise Bright

Kilclief mesmerise Bright

11 April 2018

BRIGHT took on near neighbours Kilclief in a fairly entertaining game, played in tough conditions in Ballynoe on Friday night.

With the wind in the first half Bright cut out the most chances, but Kilclief were more clinical in front of goal.

Defensively, Bright worked hard with Noel Travers, Barry Mageean and Joe Farrand proving hard to get through. Freddie O’Connor and Marc Burke constantly set up the attacks for their busy set of forwards.

Rian Tempany, O’Connor, Jack McLaughlin and Gareth George all had chances throughout the first 20 minutes with Bright hitting nine wides, while Kilclief gradually built up a three-point lead.

George eventually hit one over before Marty Murphy had a good chance of a goal, but sent his shot wide. Bright got the last three points of the half through Tempany, Seamas Tumelty and Marc Burke to level the scores at 0-4 apiece.

Bright weathered the storm at the start of the second half before Kilclief started to pull away again.

O’Connor, Oran Tumelty, Corey Ranaghan and Decky Trainor did their best to stem the flow, along with the Bright full back line.

Seamas Tumelty hit a great point to put two points between the teams, but Kilclief had a sting in their tail.

A breakaway goal by Kilclief didn’t seem to affect Bright as they continued to attack. A fine solo run by O’Connor put panic through the heart of the away defence.

Tumelty received the pass and hit a shot that looked goal-bound, but ‘keeper Ryan Miskelly tipped it over the bar.

A valiant effort by Bright with fine performances all round, but it wasn’t enough to bag the points.

Bright scorers: George (0-1), Rian Tempany (0-1), Marc Burke (0-1), Seamas Tumelty (0-3).
