27 July 2022

NEWCASTLE’S Donard Park is hosting the Heart o’ Down Pipe Band Championships next weekend.

The skirl of the pipes will fill the air in the resort next Saturday for the event organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch. Donard Park hosted the Ulster Championships in 2019.

Next weekend’s event starts at 10am and will be the final local championship of the 2022 season, incorporating The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch Champion of Champions prizes.

Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairman, Michael Savage, said he is pleased to welcome The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch to Newcastle for ‘The Heart o’ Down Pipe Band Championships.

“Undoubtedly, Donard Park will be full of music and colour as pipe bands, drum majors and Highland dancers return to the seaside town,” he said.

“This cultural and musical event has proven to attract many visitors who are sure to enjoy an abundance of music and competitions which feature the best bands and dancers throughout the country.”

Parking will be available at Donard Park on the day, with specific areas for disabled parking.
