Health visitor Anne retires after 44 years

A HIGHLY respected health visitor has retired after 44 years’ service.

Anne Tumelty said farewell to her colleagues at a recent function to mark her retirement from the South Eastern Trust.

Her career in healthcare began in 1981 when she commenced her training as a children’s nurse.

For many years, Anne worked in children’s surgery before moving into education and teaching health and social care at the South Eastern Regional College.

In 2012, Anne joined the public health nursing team as a staff nurse working in the Down sector, with her passion for supporting families inspiring her to return to university to study and qualify as a health visitor, fulfilling a long-held ambition.

Throughout her career, Anne has worked in both the Lisburn and Downpatrick health visiting teams where she has been a dedicated and valued member of the service, making a real difference to the lives of children and families across the Trust area.

Helen Leigh, head of service for public health in the South Eastern Trust, thanked Anne for her outstanding contribution

“Anne’s dedication, warmth and professionalism have left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the families she has supported,” she said.

“Anne will be greatly missed, but we wish her every happiness and success as she embarks on this new chapter in life.”
