Greyabbey artist Ross’s first exhibition is opened at the Katie Lindsay Gallery

A KILLYLEAGH gallery will host the first exhibition by a promising young local artist.

Paintings by Ross Miley, from Greyabbey, are on display at the Katie Lindsay Gallery in Killyleagh until Wednesday, January 11.

Entitled ‘Into the Mystic’, this is Miley’s first exhibition since graduating from the Manchester School of Art earlier this year.

Many of the pieces were inspired by his move from Manchester to Carrowdore on the Ards Peninsula.

Ross said the beautiful landscapes and ever-changing seasons of the area influenced his painting.

‘Into the Mystic’ is titled in homage to a famous Van Morrison track.

Miley has tried to capture the essence of the song in this exhibition — the use of ‘writing’ for its artistic form and expression of feelings rather than to record any particular place.

He also cited the intersection between music and painting as a touchstone of his work, taking inspiration from punk bands and musical heroes like Radiohead.

His art carries an industrial, punk aesthetic with heavy use of petrol blues, candy pinks and neon oranges.

The Katie Lindsay Gallery says it is “delighted to present Ross Miley’s first solo show”, praising the young painter’s work for “evoking feelings like passion, vulnerability and bliss”.
