THE Ardglass Just Dance group brought the curtain down on another successful season with an end-of-year show held recently at the village’s community centre.
Catering for children aged between three and 16, Just Dance is run by Jenna Finnegan whose late mother Bernie was the group’s founding member.
Assisting Jenna are a number of volunteers who give freely of their time to help children learn a range of dances up to competition standard including solos, pairs, duos and quads.
The local group recently received funding from the Community Foundation via the Ardglass Development Association, with its chairwoman, Margaret Smyth, encouraging children in the village, Downpatrick and surrounding area to get involved in its work which enhances the self-confidence of children and teenagers.
“I was delighted to work with the Community Foundation to apply and secure funding for this group,” said Margaret. “The money is being used to promote the group and, most importantly, support its members to improve their welfare and quality of life.
“A massive thanks to the Community Foundation for its financial support and to Jenna who puts in so much hard work week after week to help the children. We must not forget the volunteers who help Jenna, Toni McDarby, Caroline O’Shea, Collette Murray and Joanne Lundy and all the parents for their support.”
After the recent end-of-season event, Jenna took to social media to thank Margaret for her support.
She added: “Thanks for everything you have done not only for us, but the Ardglass community. You will always be a part of our dance family and mummy would be so proud of you for giving so much of your own time to help others.”
Jenna’s dad William posted: “Good luck Margaret. It’s great to see Ardglass having a positive, single-minded driving force dedicated to the benefit of the people of the village. In you they have just that. You lead well and you get support.”
