Great night for Darragh Cross with three titles in Dundrum

ST Aquinas Hall, Dundrum, was the setting for the 2018 East Down Scór Sinsir final on Sunday evening.

The audience was treated to a fantastic night’s entertainment from the representatives of the participating clubs.

Pride of place went to representatives from Darragh Cross GAC, who picked up three titles on the night.

The competition commenced with the quiz with eight teams taking part — Carryduff, Bredagh, Ballykinlar, Kilcoo, Drumaness Camogie, Drumaness Football, St John’s and Darragh Cross.

Bredagh were the deserving East Down champions with Carryduff taking the runners-up place.

Castlewellan won the music section and go on to represent their club and East Down in the county final.

In the solo singing competition eight clubs were represented — Dromara, Ballygalget, Darragh Cross, Dundrum F, Teconnaught, Saul, Dundrum L and Drumaness.

All of the competitors gave great performances, but Sarah McVeigh, from Darragh Cross, and Angela McGreevy, from Saul, were successful in winning through to the county final.

They were followed by the recitation with Sharleen Neeson, from Darragh Cross, wining the East Down award with and Kathleen Luca, from Dromara, taking the runners-up place.

The leiriú competition was next with winners Darragh Cross and runners-up Drumaness all performing with their wide range of s being acted out to the very appreciative audience.

The ballad group category was contested by Dundrum and neighbours Bryansford with Dundrum pipping Bryansford at the post to claim the East Down title.

The most difficult task of the night inevitably lay with the adjudicators, who had the onerous task of choosing the East Down champion in each of the competitions.

At the conclusion the East Down chairman, Ger Connery, who presented medals to the successful participants, thanked the clubs, mentors, organising committee and the audience for their continued support.

The county final will be held in the Parish Hall, Banbridge, this Sunday commencing at 6pm.
