NINETY parcels of free meat was distributed to senior citizens in Ballynahinch last week to help them during the coronavirus lockdown.
The welcome gesture was paid by the Community Foundation and the County Down Rural Community Network.
Each recipient received fresh chops, mince meat and steak pieces in what currently is a one-off donation.
Volunteers from Ballynahinch Community Network (BCC) handed out the parcels with the meat supplied by Poole’s Butchers in the town.
Ballynahinch Community Network vice-chairman Richard Orme said: “I would just like to praise everyone’s spirit at this hard time and for all the help our group and volunteers and of course our funders for their kind help.
“We are just doing our bit to help our own community in time of need so thank you all. Please take care and stay safe everyone.”
BCC members have been very active recently in collecting food donations and delivering food packages on behalf of Ballynahinch Food Bank, which is run from Ballynahinch First Presbyterian Church.
The food bank also received £260 worth of food donated by the staff of Lidl in Ballynahinch.
