Dundrum club retains crown for eighth year

4 June 2025

DELAMONT Country Park, near Killyleagh, hosted the annual Strangford Lough Skiffie Festival at the weekend.

After two days of fierce competition, Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club retained the Narrows Challenge Trophy, making them champions for the eighth consecutive year.

The weather made for challenging rowing conditions and on Saturday the junior clubs displayed some exceptional rowing with Dundrum CRC coming out on top and winning the Junior Club Trophy.

The Senior Club Trophy was won by Sketrick CRC after some very competitive racing, especially in the open male and female races.

The Moyna Tyson Cup was won by Strangford CRC ladies’ teams whose overall performance was outstanding.

Newry Mourne and Down District Council  were the main sponsors of the event and the Down Coastal Rowing Association Skiffie Fest committee, led by Charlie McClements, would like to thank them for their financial and practical assistance.

The races were kindly sponsored by Finnebrogue, Alexander Reid and Frazier, Garunda Design, Quarry Hill Church, Reilly Education, MKB Law, NFU, King and Boyd Solicitors, East Coast Granite, Smart Tempus, Armstrong Opticians and O'Prey Developments.

The organisers would also like to thank the Delamont staff, Safer Waters, the Coastguard, EMT, Strangford Moorings, everyone who volunteered from DCRA clubs and service providers.

Preparation is continuing for the Skiffie Worlds and the Down Coastal Rowing Association would like to wish all of the local clubs – Dundrum, Strangford, Killyleagh, Portaferry, Portavogie, Kilclief, Sketrick, Donaghadee and Ardglass – every success in Stranraer.
