THEY were only 20 when they got married and this Sunday James and Kathleen Quinn will celebrate 60 years of marriage.
The Drumaness couple will be joined by their three children — Martin, Jackie and Tracy — and their nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren as they mark their diamond anniversary.
Mr Quinn is well known in Downpatrick for running his own home bakery, Quinn’s, in Scotch Street
for years and for his skill at poetry writing and recitation and singing.
The couple met in their late teens at a dance in Dunmore and dated for several years before they married in St Patrick’s Church in Ballynahinch on August 22, 1961, honeymooning in England.
After living for ten years in Belfast, the couple returned to Mrs Quinn’s (nee McKee) home place just outside Drumaness where they built their current home.
When asked what was the secret to maintaining such a long and happy marriage, Mrs Quinn advised: “Never go to sleep on an argument.”
