Downpatrick midweek team progress to league cup final

IT was another successful week for Downpatrick Cricket Club as both their midweek and second teams picked up impressive and important victories.

The Downpatrick midweek team defeated BISC by 62 runs in the Midweek League semi-final to progress to the final.

Good knocks from Gavin Ringland (34, retired), Aaron Ferris (28) Sidharth Kumar (31, retired) and Abhishek Sanglikar (27) helped set a cracking total of 157.

Captain Indulkhar Jagadeesh then took three wickets for 18 and team-mate Samuel Irwin took two for ten to wrap up a comprehensive victory.

The team will contest the final tonight against Lisburn at Shaws Bridge, with the match beginning at 5.15pm.

Meanwhile, Downpatrick seconds kept up their impressive form by defeating Cliftonville fourths by seven wickets to remain top of Section 8. 

Abhishek Sanglikar has been playing the captain’s role and again he provided a very calm innings of 41 with three boundaries and three sixes. 

Giressh Sudhakren was in a rush home and hit three big sixes and a boundary in his 23 not out showing.

The seconds team now need just two wins from their remaining four games left to win the league.

Tonight (5.15pm): Downpatrick midweek v Lisburn midweek, Midweek Cup final at Shaws Bridge.

Saturday (1pm): Drumaness Superkings v Downpatrick; Downpatrick II v Ardent Blues III, Minor Qualifying Cup semi-final.

Sunday (10am): Downpatrick U-14 v Saintfield U-14.

Sunday (1pm): Downpatrick III v BISC V.

All support welcome with refreshments on sale at all of the Strangford Road games.

Downpatrick Cricket Club’s 175 years celebration, games and renaming of the pavilion  was postponed and has now been set for Sunday, August 27.
