Downpatrick Women’s Institute AGM

20 September 2023

MEMBERS of Downpatrick Women’s Institute met for their annual general meeting in Downpatrick Presbyterian Church last Wednesday evening.

They were welcomed by the vice-president, Geraldine Gray, after which Federation chairman Margaret Broome chaired the proceedings.

Minutes from last year’s AGM along with the secretary’s and treasurer’s report were read and approved.

A proposal for next year’s AGM to take place in May was approved and it was agreed that current office bearers would continue in their respective roles until then.

Edwina Marr gave a report on the Associated Country Women of the World, and thanked everyone for donations received to date for the ‘Women Walk the World’ camping that took place in April.

Following the vote of thanks by Debbie McKibben, everyone enjoyed a cup of tea along with scrumptious treats provided by Sharon & Veronica McVeigh.

The competition for a holiday souvenir was won by Debbie Warwick with Pat Mulhall second and Veronica McVeigh third. The ballot prize winners were Brenda Rea and Renee Finney.

There was an acknowledgement of birthdays that occurred throughout the summer, with Helen Orr celebrating her birthday in June, Debbie McKibben in August and Paddy Burns in September.

The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 11, at 7.30pm in Downpatrick Presbyterian Church Hall.

The theme for the evening will be ‘Poetry Story Teller from Lough Neagh’ and there will also be a competition entitled ‘An Up-cycled Plastic Bottle.’

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at the Downpatrick Presbyterian Church Hall and new members are welcome. For more information, visit the Downpatrick Women’s Institute Facebook page.
