Downpatrick Arts Society event in St Patrick Centre

Downpatrick Arts Society event in St Patrick Centre

13 October 2021

LADY Margaret Ritchie joined members of Downpatrick Art Society as the group’s 51st exhibition got underway at the St Patrick’s Centre.

Over 80 paintings are on show encompassing a range of styles and themes, with many of the works inspired by local landscapes, while other paintings have stories to tell.

Other paintings depict faraway shores to dream about and there are a few abstract works too – so there’s something for everyone.

The exhibition allows the artists to share their joy of painting with the public and indeed many of the paintings can be purchased to be enjoyed at home or as a gift for someone.

The Society began over 50 years ago with four founding members and has continued to flourish as this year’s exhibition proves.

Prior to the Covid-19 lockdown, the Society enjoyed demonstrations and critiques by professional artists as well as outings and social activities and it is hoped to return to these activities as the restrictions ease.

Those who love painting or drawing and would like to join the Art Society should call 028 4488 1690 or leave their contact details at the reception desk in the St Patrick’s Centre.

The new exhibition runs until the end of October between 9am and 5pm.
