MEMBERS of Downe u3a learned about Ukrainian food and culture during a recent meeting at Owenbeg Bowling Club in Dwnpatrick.
The event was organised with the help of funding from the Good Relations Fund managed by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
Members were able to taste dishes prepared for them by a group of four Ukrainian women who are currently living in the area.
Tetiana Yaroshevska, Olha Vasilyeva, Olena Matviichuk and Oksana Taneva handed out recipe leaflets so that those in attendance could make borscht, draniki, spicy bean lobio, chebureki or kravai at home.
Two young Ukrainians, Viktor and Mariia, also showcased their skills by showing a series of short films about their country, its history and its customs.
This was the second in a series of three funded events aimed at improving relations with various communities in the area, with next month’s event being held with members of the Thai community.
