LOCAL charity Suicide Down to Zero has thanked a number of local organisations for supporting the vital work it carries out in the area.

Residents, community and sporting groups have raised hundreds of pounds for the organisation with the most recent donation of £1,070 handed over to charity representatives Pat McGreevy and Joe Canavan by Mrs Martina Clendenning who took part in the recent Out of Darkness Walk at Rossglass.

Management, coaches, players and supporters of Ballynagross FC donated £350 with the money raised at a charity match on New Year’s Day.

Charity officials say they rely almost totally on donations from the public and is grateful for all the support Suicide Down to Zero receives to support its work.

The charity has also thanked the Newcastle and District Amateur League for allowing a collection taken up at the Harry Clarke and Bobby Dalzell cup finals which raised a total of just over £492.

A spokesman for the charity says it “wholeheartedly” wants to thank the players, families and supporters of the teams who competed in both cup finals in addition to everyone who generously supported the charity on the day.

“All money raised on our behalf will be used in our goal to reduce suicide down to zero. Suicide is preventable, not inevitable,” the spokesman added.
