Crossgar Cycling Club hosting event in memory of founding member Michael

2 August 2023

A CHARITY cycle is to be held in memory of a Crossgar man who died suddenly earlier this year.

Crossgar Cycling Club have organised a series of events, including a cycle, over the weekend of August 26-27 to cerebrate the life of Michael Crowe.

Michael, who was 59, passed away after suffering an acute coronary thrombosis whilst out mountain biking with friends in Castlewellan Forest Park on January 15.

Michael had no previous health issues and would have celebrated his 60th birthday on August 29.

He owned the well-known interiors business ‘The Crowes Nest’ in Crossgar along with his wife, Shaunagh.

He was a keen cyclist and was instrumental in the formation of Crossgar Cycling Club.

Along with Michael’s family and friends, the club have organised a number of events to raise money for Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and Stroke.

The first event will take place in the courtyard of The Crowes Nest on Saturday, August 26, where there will be static bikes from 10am to 5pm with music and refreshments.

Visitors are welcome to call in for coffee and a bun, or sit down and relax with a foot massage. Donations can be made at the shop.

The charity cycle takes place the following day. Cyclists will leave the War Memorial Hall in Crossgar at 8.30am, taking in one of Michael’s favourite hills – Dree Hill. Refreshments will be available at Slieve Croob and on return to the War Memorial Hall.

There will be live music from 2.30pm in the Corner Inn, Crossgar, with a BBQ and raffle from 6pm.

People can sign up for the cycle by calling into The Crowes Nest shop.  Those who wish to register must pay with cash only.
