ROWALLANE councillor Jonny Jackson has been appointed the DUP’s new group leader on Newry, Mourne and Down Council.
His appointment was confirmed at the local authority’s monthly meeting on Monday night with Cllr Jackson succeeding Mournes councillor Glyn Hanna.
Cllr Jackson said the DUP’s priority during the local authority’s new four-year term will be fighting for improved services.
He said while at this time of year many are focused on the back to school routine, the DUP council team has hit the ground running in the new council term, working to highlight the need for a refocus on back-to-basics when it comes to local authority service delivery.
“Every ratepayer should receive their basic council services,” said Cllr Jackson.
“Every bin should be lifted, none missed, with access to amenity sites and leisure services should be undisturbed. Public toilets should be open their full opening hours and to a quality standard.”
Cllr Jackson said the DUP is committed to holding the council to account in delivering these basic services as well as many more.
He added: “I am proud to lead our strong DUP team through this new council term as we focus on local delivery.”
