Brave souls urged to back lighthouse abseil for charity

18 January 2012

A PORTAFERRY family has called on local daredevils to abseil down a local lighthouse to raise money for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Sascha Fuller, and her parents Stephen and Nicky, launched the event at St. John’s Point Lighthouse recently and hope local people will be encouraged to take part in the 120-feet abseil on St. Patrick’s Day.

Four year-old Sascha was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010 and her father Stephen says the family received invaluable support from CLIC Sargent’s social worker during her treatment at the Royal Victoria Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

“When Sascha was receiving treatment for leukaemia we received much needed support from Bridgett, our CLIC Sargent Social Worker based at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children,” he said.

“The help we got was invaluable, providing us with financial and emotional support. Fundraising events like this mean that other families can continue to receive the support they need from CLIC Sargent.

“So I encourage people to sign up for this event and have a great day out at the same time.”

Registration for the challenge is £25 per person and CLIC Sargent asks that people raise a minimum of £55 sponsorship.
