THE village of Dundrum was buzzing with excitement on Saturday as runners, volunteers and supporters turned out in force for this year’s GR8 Dundrum Run.
The runners were treated with perfect weather and calm conditions, and participants and spectators enjoyed what many described as the best event yet.
The day featured two main races — an 8.5-mile run, which set off at 11am, followed by the 3.5-mile route.
With no wind on the beach and ideal running conditions, many competitors recorded personal bests, adding to the uplifting atmosphere throughout the morning.
The event was once again brilliantly hosted by Pamela Ballantine, who brought her trademark glamour, energy and fun to proceedings. Her lively hosting kept spirits high from start to finish.
Music was provided by Simon, whose playlists kept runners and supporters alike in great form. Organisers extended heartfelt thanks to Simon, as well as all the volunteers, who gave their time, both on the day and in the many weeks of preparation.
The Murlough AC committee members were praised for their teamwork and dedication. We appreciate all the lovely messages and congratulations we have received on social media.
A special mention goes to the junior runners, for tackling the challenging 3.5-mile course with determination and enthusiasm.
It is not an easy run, as there are both hill and road sections, but our young athletes rose to the occasion and truly earned their medals.
The team also expressed deep gratitude to The Dundrum Inn, for sponsoring the event, and to Creative Village Dundrum, the Dundrum community and local businesses, for their ongoing support.
As the organisers take a well-earned break, they are already looking forward to planning next year’s GR8 Dundrum Run — another chance to celebrate fitness, community and local pride in one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic settings.
