THE annual enrolment service of Second Ballynahinch Boys’ Brigade Company took place on Sunday evening in Ballynahinch Congregational Church.
The church was packed as Rev Dr George Speers welcomed the large congregation of family and friends.
This was the first enrolment service that could be safely held in the main church for three years due to coronavirus.
Mr Steers paid tribute to the ongoing encouragement from parents and the many volunteer leaders and helpers engaged in the work of the BB on a weekly basis.
The challenge of maintaining the attention of the boys was down to the guest speaker Mr Colin Tinsley, from Hope for Youth Ministries.
BB Company captain Mark Bell called on all boys to join the adventure at 2nd Ballynahinch Boys’ Brigade.
He said: “Today we are passionate about building bridges into local communities and engaging children and young people, from P1 to Year 14, by means of weekly groups, special events, local district and province wide competitions, community involvement and training programmes.
“The Boys’ Brigade offers an experience of life beyond what is possible in school or at home. We believe that by participating in exciting activities, making new friends, having fun and finding out about faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the children and young people can discover and develop their potential.”
Second Ballynahinch Company meets at the Congregational Church Halls, Dromore Road, every Monday evening between September and Easter.
Anchor Boys (P1-P4) is from 6.15-7.30pm, Junior Section (P5-P7) from 7-8.30pm and Company Section and Seniors (Year 8-14) from 7.30-9.30pm.
President’s Badge
The enrolment service also marked the success of two Company Section boys who achieved their President’s Badge Award last year.
The President’s Badge is the second highest award which can be gained by a young person in the Boys’ Brigade.
Throughout last year the boys completed a number of core elements which included various activities and many hours of practical service for the BB.
Well done to David Graham and Joel Bell for achieving this. The occasion was marked with their mothers presenting their sons with their awards.
Second Ballynahinch Company has some spaces available for new members in all three sections so please get in touch if you would like more information about joining via the 2nd Ballynahinch Boys’ Brigade Facebook or Instagram page.
