Ballynahinch’s Elsie wins world dance champ crown

A BALLYNAHINCH girl has been hailed a world-class dancer.

Four-year-old Elsie Brechin was crowned world champion in the Tiny Tots division at the World Dance Masters World Championships at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool recently.

Elsie is a dance student at Dancesation based in Owenbeg Bowling Club in Downpatrick and has been competing since the age of two.

No stranger to success, Elsie is a former Ulster champion and has placed first at both the UDC competition and Kasana Dance Festival for the past two years.

Elsie’s grandmother and teacher Sharon Gill, who was also a dance world champion in 2012, said Elsie has been working hard for the World Dance Championships since last September.

“She has dance practice every week, and practices a lot at home,” she said.

Sharon thanked Elsie’s other teacher, Jaki Mulholland, Owenbeg Bowling Club for their sponsorship and to family and friends for supporting the Dancesation dancers.
