Ballynagross win in canter

BALLYNAGROSS showed no signs of relinquishing their grip on the Harry Clarke Cup with a rock solid performance against an experienced Ardglass on Saturday at Mountain Quarter.

Manager Karl Gelston, a former Ardglass stalwart, showed no signs of leniency towards his old club as he sent his charges out full of enthusiasm and energy and boy did they repay his faith in style.

The recalled Eoin McCavera had a field day out on the left flank and he dovetailed perfectly with his brother Donal and Daniel Taggart.

Ballynagross held sway in the middle of the park, thanks to the dominance of Deglan Arnold and Matthew Rooney, and they teamed up with Eoin McCavera to create an early opening for Taggart and the former Drumaness Mills and Downpatrick FC player, made no mistake with an unerring finish.

Ballynagross continued to boss things and Ardglass had to rely heavily on skipper Daniel Fleming and Malachy Crangle to keep the visitors in the game.

However, there was just no stopping Taggart and he grabbed his and Ballynagross’ second goal midway through the half.

The writing was on the wall for Ardglass and their misery was compounded when the ageless Kieran Taggart made it 3-0 just before the break.

Ballynagross took their foot of the gas in the second half and played a possession game without taking too much out of themselves.

Cathail Arnold in goal was rarely troubled by a shot-shy Ardglass attack and Ballynagross went on to score a fourth goal through Donal McCavera and secure their place in the last four.
