4 January 2023

AIR Ambulance Northern Ireland has been handed a £2,000 boost in memory of Ballygowan man David McGaughey.

His sister Clare and her family held a Halloween fancy dress event at Gourley’s Bar in the village and raised £2,045 for the charity.

The event was organised by the McGaughey and Kearney family and supported by the  community, raising £2,045.

The charity’s area fundraising manager, Grace Williams, has thanked Clare, her family and all those who helped raise what she described as “wonderful total.”

She continued: “The family is such an inspiration, organising this unique fundraiser in loving memory of David and in support of Air Ambulance NI. We are so humbled they chose to support us in this way.

“It is only with continued support of the public that the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service [HEMS] is able to continue providing critical care at scene for the most critically ill in Northern Ireland.”

The charity, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service for Northern Ireland, bringing urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province.

Operating seven days a week for 12 hours per day, the helicopter can reach anywhere in Northern Ireland in around 25 minutes. Since its launch, the medical crew have responded to over 3,000 calls.

The HEMS team attend patients who are seriously ill or injured, bringing emergency pre-hospital care direct to the casualty with

the aim of saving lives, brains and limbs.

The charity cherishes connecting with former patients and their families and anyone who has been treated by the HEMS crew is asked to get in touch on 028 9262 2677.

Air Ambulance NI aspires to raise £2m each year to maintain and sustain this service so public donations are crucial.
