Assumption Grammar School pupils take part in first cross-border project

26 June 2024

Year 10 students from Assumption Grammar School in Ballynahinch have successfully completed The Harmony Project.

The Harmony Project designed to promote social cohesion across the island of Ireland through the delivery of a shared curriculum. Assumption Grammar School was one of six schools – three in Northern and three in the Irish Republic – to be involved in the inaugural programme.

The programme’s first priority was supporting mental health.

The students participated in workshops and learned strategies to maintain their mental well-being, in collaboration with the Tackle Your Feelings organisation and Irish Rugby.

The second priority was climate action using an app to reduce carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions.

The third strand of the programme was a shared unit of work  ‘From Conflict to Peace in Northern Ireland’ to highlight the legacy of the Good Friday Agreement and explore peace-building strategies to promote peace in local communities and beyond.

Students wrote letters to their partner schools to help foster friendships and to give them opportunities to reflect on the experiences of The Harmony Project.

Assumption students were partnered with students from St Mary’s College, Naas, in Co. Kildare.
