A DOWNPATRICK girl has become a drumming world champion.
Thirteen year-old Ashley Steele beat 25 other competitors in the U-14 Juvenile Section 1 grade at the World Solo Drumming Championships in Glasgow on Saturday.
A snare drummer at Hollymount Pipe Band, Ashley has been drumming since the age of seven and has competed in solo competitions since the age of nine.
She has competed with Hollymount at local, major and world competitions for the past three years and the band are “extremely proud” of her recent achievement.
Hollymount Pipe Band offers teaching in both piping and snare drumming with world champion tutors Brian Martin and Matthew Shaw.
