A great first event for Edengrove Players

3 February 2016

IT was a roaring success and had them dancing in the aisles.

Six months ago the Edengrove Players drama group was formed and last week a debut production, ‘Our Last Summer’, was met by packed houses and rave reviews.

The new drama group was formed in Edengrove Presbyterian Church and for 90 per cent of the cast it was the first time they had performed on stage.

Produced and directed by Johnny Graham, the production was an Abba-themed musical that told a love story centred around the historic Montalto Estate.

Cast and crew were delighted with the response of the local community, with local businesses advertising in the programme and people flocking in large numbers to see the show.

By closing night the audience were dancing in the aisles and singing along enthusiastically, much to the delight of Johnny who said he was amazed at the response of the community.

“From eight year-olds to over 80s, for 90 per cent of the cast this was the first time they had performed on stage — but it certainly won’t be the last,” he said.

Tributes were paid to choreographer, Georgia Forde, who put together two hours of complex dance movements; Betty Shaw and Francis Neil for producing a huge variety of high quality costumes; Georgia Forde, David Patterson, Desy McGregor and Willie McCulla for the sound and lighting; Stuart Jess, who produced high quality video and stills from Montalto as a back, and Freda Wallace, for providing refreshments drink the 20 minute interval.
