‘Taster’ days at Blackwater

‘Taster’ days at Blackwater

31 December 2014

BLACKWATER Integrated College held two very successful primary ‘taster days’ on November 28 and December 8 with over 250 P7 students from 12 local primary schools attending the college.

Students had the opportunity to experience a day at the college and the different classes on offer. A fun day was had by all with William from Dromara Primary School commenting: ‘All in all it was a great day and I will definitely be putting it down as one of my choices’

The ‘taster days’ are part of an ongoing link with local primary schools that Blackwater has planned for the year ahead. Curriculum links are to be developed, allowing primary students in the area to experience subjects such as home economics, technology, art and PE that primary schools find difficult to cater for due to a lack of facilities.

Mr Stephen Taylor, principal of Blackwater College, said: “We aim over the next two years to develop our relationships with local primary schools and build upon the excellent work being done in Blackwater from a curriculum perspective with improved exam results and an excellent inspection report.”

With the new college motto of ‘Building, Inspiring, Caring,’ Blackwater is building for the future with the new links helping Blackwater become a vital part of the local community.
