A LOCAL fundraising group is continuing to offer financial support to a suicide prevention charity.

Donard Fundraising Group has presented a cheque of £5,000 to PIPS Newcastle and MYMY (Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide and Self Harm and Mind Your Mate and Yourself) following a recent series of fundraising initiatives.

Jacqui Mason, from Donard Fundraising Group, said she had witnessed first–hand the dedication of the volunteers of PIPS and MYMY.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from, their welcoming door is always open,” she said.

“They will listen, care and do their very best to help you, without ever passing any judgement regardless of what struggles, issues or difficulties anyone is experiencing.

“Unfortunately in South Down and beyond, suicide among our communities is still prevalent and the stigma that is wrongly attached to it should have no place in today’s society.

“It would be fantastic if councils could provide a medically qualified local person for people to turn to for immediate human help and intervention at that most critical time when someone is actually feeling so lost they feel they have no hope but to end their life,” she said.

PIPS/MYMY are located at 58B Main Street Newcastle. Telephone 0284 372 7549 or email: mindyourmateandyourself@gmail.com
