THE official opening of one of the most modern food processing facilities in Europe takes place in Downpatrick in early June.

Artisan Finnebrogue based at the Down Business Park recently completed work on a £25m new plant and food development centre.

The hugely successful business under the leadership of Denis Lynn currently employs around 330 staff but is looking to recruit more highly skilled personnel as it ramps up its operation which is currently generating a £55m annual turnover.

Specialising in artisan pork products, the successful business which is a recognised leader and innovator in its field, is gearing up to double its turnover which is expected to hit the £100m mark within the next few years.

The Downpatrick business is a market leader and supplies a host of UK retailers including Marks and Spencer, Asda, Waitrose and Aldi, with the firm’s major investment in its new plant paving the way for another local jobs boost.

Staff at Finnebrogue are passionate about making great food and in order to continue to meet consumer demand for its innovative products, the business is searching for high calibre food science graduates to work for it.

The firm is keen to expand its workforce and wants to recruit people who have a real passion for the company’s delicious food, its brand and the local community, to work at the new 160,000 sq. ft. plant.

A major success since its launch, the Downpatrick business has no plans to stand still with owner Denis Lynn committed to investing more money in new products and high calibre staff as he aims to take the business to the next level. He said the 21st century plant is one of the most modern of its kind anywhere in Europe.

The official opening and launch party for the modern plant is being held on Friday, June 3, between 3pm and 9pm.
