SIR, — I took a number of items to the Down Council dump in Downpatrick on Tuesday of last week.
When I arrived I was informed the dump was full and no more waste could be accepted. I was told I could drive to the council dump in Castlewellan to dispose of the items there.
I do not think it’s acceptable that on the day following a public holiday that the service provide by the council at the Cloonagh Road in Downpatrick was not functioning.
Surely Down Council should make adequate provision at what is probably a busy time of the year.
To my knowledge, Down Council charges one of the higher domestic rates in Northern Ireland. I did not find the service I encountered reflective of this charge.
Yours etc.
M. O’TOOLE,
Downpatrick.
