THE death has taken place of Mr. Ronald McElrath. He was 64.

A resident of Seaview in Ardglass, Mr. McElrath was born in Castlewellan and attended the town’s primary and intermediate schools.

His working career began in his father’s furniture store at Lower Square in Castlewellan before he took up a position as a parcel boy with the Ulster Transport Authority (UTA).

Mr. McElrath also worked as a driver with the UTA in Downpatrick and was employed as a conductor with the company in Newcastle.

He also worked for a time as a driver with the former ITO in Downpatrick which later became known as New Horizons.

Mr. McElrath bore the illness he was suffering from in an uncomplaining manner and was helped with support from his wife Emily and the wider family circle. The McElrath family would like to thank all those who offered help, comfort and assistance.

Mr. McElrath was a fan of country and bluegrass music and his hobbies included walking his dogs Coco and Sindy and socialising with the members of his family.

In addition to his wife Emily, Mr. McElrath is survived by his sister Irene and brothers Ray, James and Colin. His funeral service was held at Ardglass Parish Church on December 9, with the Rev. John Ewart officiating.
