Well done to Killyleagh people

SIR, — The Killyleagh Heritage Association would like to thank everyone who celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the town last week.

Special thanks to Down Council official Mr. Mark Kent for his tireless work in the weeks leading up to last Monday’s events in the town when he was also particularly busy.

Thanks also to Mr. Chris Hagan for organising the jubilee soccer tournament at the Bridge Centre which was a great success. Children also received jubilee medals.

The Heritage Association wants to extend a special thanks to Mr. Gawn Hamilton for allowing Killyleagh Castle to be the launch point for last Monday night’s fireworks display.

Henderson’s Spar provided sponsorship towards the jubilee events for which we are also very grateful and it was a pleasure to see the Lord Lt. for Co Down, Mr. David Lindsay, helping two local schoolchildren light the jubilee beacon.

Police estimate that there were around 2,500 people in Killyleagh for last week’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and we want to thank each and every one of them for their support.

Thanks also to Portaferry Accordion Band for leading the fancy dress parade from High Street to the Bridge Centre and for the William Strain William Lightbody Flute Band from Newtownards which provided the music outside Killyleagh Castle on Monday night.

Yours etc.,

RONALD CARSON (chairman) and BRIAN OSBORNE (secretary),

Killyleagh Heritage Association.
