Well done to Crossgar group

SIR, — I would like to take this opportunity to formally and publicly congratulate the Crossgar Area Community Association on its good work in the town in recent months.

Crossgar has had a complete facelift with the introduction of the murals on Downpatrick Street and Killyleagh Street, hanging baskets and the floral cart at the roundabout.

Special congratulations to all those budding artists from the local schools who can now take such pride in their artwork taking centre stage in Crossgar.

It was simply wonderful to welcome the Olympic torch last Thursday morning to the town, a moment that will be forever entrenched in the history of Crossgar. It is uplifting to see so many take pride in their community.

All too often, bad news stories make their way into the public eye and cast a shadow on towns and communities where people are trying to do business and raise their families. This is a good news story for the town and what I hope is one step towards the regeneration and development of Crossgar.

The volunteers of the Community Association have worked tirelessly in recent months and the fruitful efforts deserve praise and recognition.

Yours etc.,

CLLR. MARIA McCARTHY,

Crossgar.
