We are lucky to have great rescue team

SIR, — What a wonderfully professional group of people the volunteers who make up the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team are.

Last week’s article in the Recorder, which revealed the team spent over 2,000 man hours assisting almost 100 people who got into difficulty in the mountains last year, shows what a dedicated group of people they are, ready to help at a moment’s notice.

The volunteers are on call 24/7 and face not only difficult terrain, but particularly challenging weather conditions at times. They work hand in glove with other members of the emergency services and we are very grateful for everything they do.

The rescue team members go about their work saving lives and ensuring those who have the misfortune to fall and sustain injury in the Mournes are rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

We are very lucky to have men and women who put the needs of others first and who are often the first to respond to emergencies in the mountains. We are thankful for their efforts and owe them a debt of gratitude.

Yours etc,

GRATEFUL,
