CONFIRMATION that maintenance work is to be carried out at the Bunkers Hill family walks and play trails in Castlewellan has been welcomed by a local politician.

Play equipment in the area has been targeted by vandals, while overgrowing vegetation in the area is concerning families who use the facility.

Councillor Patrick Clarke raised their concerns with Newry, Mourne and Down Council’s enterprise, regeneration and tourism department, asking that the issues are addressed. As a result, council officials have agreed to instigate an action plan.

“A schedule of maintenance works is being carried out on behalf of the local authority by Mourne Heritage Trust, which will also address the overgrown vegetation and weeds issues,” he explained.

Councillor Clarke confirmed the local authority’s countryside access officer and playground inspectors will meet shortly to discuss the repair of damaged play equipment at Bunkers Hill.
