UKIP representative should have contacted residents over Langley Road traffic

SIR, — As chairman and secretary of the Langley Road Community Association we read with interest comments in last week’s edition from UKIP representative Alan Lewis about the absence of traffic calming measures at our estate.

This issue is currently being dealt with by the Langley community group, Strangford MP Jim Shannon and Councillor Garth Craig.

While there are currently no ramps to slow the speed of vehicles using the estate, we realise to have them provided is an uphill struggle. But progress to move the Langley scheme further up the Roads Service priority list is being made.

We are however disappointed Mr. Lewis did not contact the Langley Road Community Association to ascertain what is the current position with regard to the provision of traffic calming measures and feel he should have done so. If he had, he would have been better informed.

Over the past number of years Mr. Shannon has been working hard on behalf of the people of Langley. He has secured new oil-fired central heating for a number of tenants, the provision of new footpaths and the inclusion of a number of homes on a UPVC window replacement scheme.

The MP was also instrumental in helping secure £15,000 to finance a number of community-based initiatives, including an anti-social behaviour action plan. He is also helping spearhead the drive for traffic calming measures at the Langley estate.

Yours etc.,

ANDREW STEENSON,

SANDY McTEER,

Langley Road Community Association.
