Tributes paid to ‘great lad’ after sudden death

19 August 2015

TRIBUTES have been paid to the 10 year-old boy who died after collapsing in Newcastle last Friday.

Bradley Logan passed away after falling at an amusement park at Central Promenade in the resort. He was the grandson of former Linfield captain and manager Eric Bowyer who described Bradley as a “great lad, full of fun.” He said Bradley’s death “was a great blow to the family and we will miss him so dearly.”

Witnesses said Bradley appeared to “just faint” while police said the boy’s death was not suspicious.

Due to start P7 at Harmony Hill Primary School in Lisburn next month, Bradley died hours before he was due to play in a cricket final. He was a member of Derriaghy Cricket Club’s under-11 team.

Club official, David Skelton, described Bradley as a `’fun-loving child who enjoyed his sport.”

He continued: “Bradley would go about with his grandfather and watch the football. Occasionally he would come down and watch the cricket too.”

An ambulance and rapid response paramedic were sent to the Pleasureland fun fair in Newcastle around 3.30pm and Bradley was later taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children for treatment, but later passed away.

Witnesses said the boy seemed to faint but it quickly became apparent that he was seriously ill.

Mr Skelton said Bradley was due to play for Derriaghy’s under-11 side against Donaghcloney in their league final last Friday night and that everyone at the club is devastated at what happened.

In a statement, Derriaghy Cricket Club said the thoughts and prayers of everyone associated with the club go out to Bradley’s family “whose untimely death on Friday has left us all devastated.”

A minute’s silence was observed before the club’s games on Saturday, while Linfield FC also issued a statement.

It read: “It is with much sadness that Linfield FC reports that Bradley Logan, 10-year-old grandson of Eric Bowyer, former Linfield captain and manager, died after collapsing in Newcastle on Friday.

“The deepest sympathy and most sincere condolences of everyone connected to Linfield Football Club are conveyed to the Bowyer family circle at this very sad time.”
