THREE men have been released on bail pending further inquiries over alleged drugs offences in the Castlewellan area.

Two men aged 31 and 42 were arrested in the early hours of last Thursday after police stopped a car in the Castlewellan area and uncovered a quantity of suspected heroin and suspected diazepam tablets.

A follow-up search at a nearby address revealed further quantities of what was believed to be heroin and preion medication.

A 60 year-old man at the address was also arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Sergeant Barry Moore said: “This seizure again demonstrates our commitment to tackling the scourge of drugs in our communities and to eradicating the pain and harm they cause.

“We continue to target criminals who seek to gain from the illegal drugs trade and from the misfortune of others.”

He appealed for information and asked callers to ring 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
