MEET Cosmic Park — a three-piece band oozing rock attitude despite their tender years.

Sophie Meharg (11) on drums, Sean O’Shea (11) on vocals and Cailean McStravick (10) met at a school talent show just last year and are now being played on radio stations across the UK and the US.

The Ardglass based band have just released their debut single — a punchy anthem called ‘Summer Days’ from the ‘We Are Cosmic Park’ album, which will be released early next year.

Sophie’s dad Rab Meharg, from Ardglass, explained how it all came together.

“They met at the school talent show last year when all three of them were attending St Nicolas’ Primary School, and have been rehearsing in our house twice a week ever since,” he said.

“I have worked in the music industry for the best part of 30 years and I recorded and produced their single in my home studio. I have been promoting them to contacts I have gathered over the years and have got them airplay on radio stations I’ve dealt with in the past.

“I submitted them to BBC Introducing a few weeks ago and they where selected for airplay by Rigsy and Stuart Bailey for Across The Line and were also featured on the Across The Line podcast. They have also been played on Kiss FM in Phoenix, Arizona and on college radio in Boston and L.A.”

Cosmic Park, who count AC/DC, Bon Jovi and The White Stripes among the bands that influence them, have also featured on Stereo Stickman online music magazine, Jamsphere and Superstar Central music blog.

Sophie now attends Blackwater Integrated College, Sean attends De La Salle High School and Cailean is still at St Nicolas’ Primary.

Rab explained some of what was ahead for the busy young musicians.

“They will be playing at the turning on of the Christmas lights here in Ardglass in December and I am currently working on getting them more gigs for early next year,” he said. “There is also a possibility they could be featured in a film or TV show as I have sent their song to some of the music licensing contacts I have and the song has been accepted.”

‘Summer Days’ on Ethical Earth Records is available on iTunes, Google play, Spotify etc is and also on CD.
