Teens to host coffee event to aid charity

21 October 2015

LOCAL teenagers will stand up to cancer tomorrow in a special coffee morning at South Eastern Regional College’s Downpatrick campus.

Catering students will host the event from 10am, offering members of the public tea and coffee and homemade treats in aid of Cancer Research, Downpatrick.

The event is part of Cancer Research’s groundbreaking Stand Up To Cancer initiative, which aims to accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.

Mrs Lee Parr, manageress of Downpatrick’s Cancer Research shop at St Patrick’s Avenue, said she was delighted the local teenagers were contributing to the campaign.

“This is a fantastic fundraising event involving local youth, which is such an important age group for us to target,” she said.

“Our area manager will also attend the coffee morning and will have an informal chat with the teenagers about cancer and the research around it.”

Mrs Parr said Cancer Research in Downpatrick was always seeking donations including cash and good quality clotting.

“Every such donation is very gratefully received,” she said.

Everyone is welcome to tomorrow’s coffee morning, which will begin at 10am.
